Frequently asked questions
About Maxx
What exactly is Maxx?
Maxx is an AI companion built into the HelloMaxx app. It chats with you about anything — news, jokes, stories, things you want to remember. It's not a person, and it'll always say so if you ask. It's also not a doctor, therapist, or lawyer — for those, it'll point you to the real thing.
What can I actually talk about with Maxx?
Anything. Catch up on the day's news. Hear a joke when you need a laugh. Tell Maxx a story from when you were young — it'll listen and remember. Ask for a recipe, a fun fact, or help with a crossword clue. Set a reminder to take pills or call your daughter. Have a conversation when the house feels quiet. Maxx is built for everyday talk, not just task answers.
How is Maxx different from ChatGPT or Alexa?
Memory. Most AI assistants start every conversation from a blank slate. Maxx remembers what you've told it — across days, weeks, and months. It's also designed for daily companionship, not quick task answers. And there's a family layer: voice messages, shared photos, gentle daily summaries that let your family know you're doing well.
Can I change Maxx's voice or personality?
Yes. You can choose between three personas (Companion, Friend, Assistant), pick a male or female voice, set the tone (mild, casual, or persistent), and tell Maxx how you'd like to be addressed. You can change any of this anytime in settings — your memory carries across.
Can I rename Maxx?
Not in this version. Maxx is the AI's name across the product. We may add custom naming in a future version based on what we hear from people using HelloMaxx.
Memory
What does Maxx actually remember?
Three layers. First, the conversation you're having right now. Second, the recent days of conversation at full detail (so "did I take my pills?" works). Third, the things that matter for the long haul — names, relationships, stories, preferences. Routine items (like "ate breakfast") are kept briefly and then summarized away so memory stays useful.
How long is conversation history kept?
It depends on your plan. Basic keeps 30 days at full detail, Standard keeps 90 days, and Premium keeps 365 days. Long-term memory facts are kept up to your plan's limit (Basic 100 facts, Standard 200, Premium 500). You can edit or delete any memory at any time.
Can I see what Maxx remembers? Can I delete it?
Yes to both. Ask Maxx directly ("what do you remember about my doctor?"), or open your memory dashboard in the app. You can edit any entry, delete any entry, or wipe all your memories.
Pricing & trial
How does the 7-day free trial work?
You pick a plan, give us a card, and start using HelloMaxx right away. No charge during the trial. We send reminder emails on days 5, 6, and 7 so you'll never be surprised. If you cancel before day 8, you won't be charged anything.
What happens if I go over my plan's hours?
Maxx will mention it as you approach your limit. If you hit 100%, your plan moves up to the next tier automatically so the conversation doesn't get cut off, and a prorated charge applies. Your family member will get an email and can move you back down to the previous tier from the dashboard. Every plan has clear numbers — no "unlimited" claims.
Can I pause if I'm in the hospital or traveling?
Yes. A family member can pause your subscription for 1, 2, 3, or 6 months from the dashboard. No charges during the pause. Your memory and account stay intact. Resume anytime.
What's the difference between monthly and yearly billing?
Yearly billing saves you 20% off the monthly price. You're billed once a year. The trial works the same way for both — no charge during the first 7 days, then the full year-1 amount on day 8.
How do I cancel?
Cancel anytime from the family dashboard. Your subscription ends at the end of the current billing period. Your data is retained for 90 days afterward in case you come back, then soft-deleted. You can request full deletion at any time.
Privacy & safety
Who controls the data?
You do. Your conversations are private — family members can't read them. You can ask Maxx what it remembers, edit anything, or delete everything at any time. Nothing is sold to anyone or used to train AI for anyone else.
Is my voice or photo used to train AI?
No. Your data is used to make Maxx smarter for you specifically — that's it. It is not training data for anyone else, and it is not sold.
Can my family member listen to my conversations with Maxx?
No. Conversations are private to you. What family members can see is summary information — how long you talked, whether reminders were delivered, a general sense of mood — but not the actual content of what you said.
Will Maxx tell me when to take my medication?
Maxx delivers reminders that you or a family member set up, in its own voice. It never makes medical recommendations on its own. If you ask it about a medication, it'll say it's not a doctor and suggest you call yours.
What does Maxx do in an emergency?
If you mention something that suggests an emergency — a fall, chest pain, severe distress — Maxx will suggest calling 911 (or 988 for mental health support) and will alert your family member through the dashboard. It'll stay in conversation with you to offer reassurance, but it is not a substitute for emergency services.
Stay connected
How do I set up HelloMaxx for my parent?
Sign up in your name, then add your parent as the primary user during onboarding. You handle billing and dashboard; your parent has their own account for daily conversation. You can be in the loop without being intrusive.
Can multiple family members be involved?
Yes. The primary billing person sets up the account, and additional family members can be invited with limited dashboard access (send voice messages, share photos, see daily summaries). All family members must be approved by the billing person.
Can I send my parent a voice message through Maxx?
Yes. Open the family dashboard, record up to 30 seconds of audio, and send. Maxx will mention it next time it's talking with your parent. They can record a response back to you the same way.
Can I share photos?
Yes. Family members can upload photos to a shared family album. Maxx can describe them, mention them in conversation, and read captions aloud. Photos stay private to the family.
Devices & access
What devices does HelloMaxx work on?
HelloMaxx is launching as iPhone and Android apps, plus a web app you can use on a computer or tablet. The native apps will support a wake word ("Hey Maxx") so your parent doesn't need to tap any buttons to start a conversation.
Does HelloMaxx need an internet connection?
Yes. HelloMaxx is a cloud service — Maxx's brain runs on our servers, so an internet connection is required for conversations.
